ETCATA Visits Banjul, Gambia - July, 2005

During the month of July, Dean McKinney and Donna Griffin provided technology workshops in the city of Banjul, Gambia on behalf of the PanAfrican Teachers' Centre (PATC). Dean and Donna co-presented with PATC's Executive Assistant, Zack Bawa. The sessions were hosted by the Gambia Teachers' Union. This year's participants were educators from seven different Western African countries. The men and women who took part were from Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Ghana, and Togo. The event received its funding from Education International, Canadian Teachers' Federation, and the Alberta Teachers' Association.

The PanAfrican Teachers' Centre (www.panafrica.ws) has a website created by ETCATA (formerly ATACC). This summer the workshops focussed on establishing an effective means of electronic communications between the unions and PATC; and the establishment of new websites for each of the participating unions.

ETCATA members from all over Alberta are currently involved in a mentorship program aimed at helping various teacher organizations across Africa establish and maintain their new websites. If you are interested in becoming involved please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , ETCATA Webmaster, for more information. The project is expected to continue for at least five years.
